Computer Re-furbishing

In early 2014, I met Warren Hill at a local computer club meeting in Colorado Springs.   Warren was a member of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs and a director at the Colorado Springs Sister Cities International.  These two charities worked with the Rotary Club of Nuevo Casas Grandes Paquime, Mexico, Together they provided used computers the schools in Nuevo Casas Grandes.

Here is a quote from Warren Hill:

“Warren Hill, a Colorado Springs Rotary member and past chair of the Nuevo Casas Grande Sister City Committee was instrumental in a number of projects for rural schools and fire services in and around Nuevo Casas Grandes.  Jeff Towne’s volunteering to assist with rehabilitation of computers to go to rural schools in Mexico was a Godsend for this work which continued for several years.  Young grade school children are more computer savvy because of this work.”

In 2015 I refurbished 18 computers donated by myself and individuals.  In December, Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs donated 18 HP6455b Probook laptop computers, which I refurbished.  I cleaned the computers and removed all used data before sending them to Rotary Club of Colorado Springs.

In 2017 I received 100 Dell All-in-One computers also donated by Pikes Peak Community College of Colorado Springs. These computer’s hard drives had been wiped clean so I then installed Windows 7 and basic drivers.  Together my wife and I wrapped the computers, power supplies , mouses and keyboards in shrink wrap to prepare them for shipping.
